ABOUT
My name is Heather Smith. I tried to follow a conventional path, but it didn’t stick.
I went to university and studied psychology, history, religion and literature. In the process of acquiring two rather useless master’s degrees, I learned a lot about the psyche, history, religion and literature. Along the way I discovered witchcraft and tarot, was initiated in two traditions of witchcraft and one Druidry tradition, and embraced the path of a bodhisattva by becoming ordained as a Zen Buddhist.
I read the tarot mostly for myself for many years, and occasionally for friends. While there were periods when I wouldn’t work with it for a few months, I always came back to tarot, fascinated by its mysterious wisdom and beautiful images. Then, at the invitation of a friend, I started to do readings at some conferences.
TAROT CONSULTATIONS
A Tarot deck is a symbolic map of our lives in miniature, a deck of 78 cards containing the myriad constellations of situations, people, moods, events and archetypes that ebb and flow continuously through our psyches. As a reader, I don’t make psychic predictions, nor do I answer yes-or-no questions. Psychic insights may arise in a reading, but I prefer to focus on people’s situations and choices, and their emotional and spiritual truths. The purpose of a reading is not to reveal fated events, but how we may best go forth to meet our destiny with confidence, creativity, and wisdom. As a reader, my focus is on increasing clarity and knowledge about lessons, purpose, choices, and values in order to give the querent tools to resourcefully manage a situation as circumstances change.
A Tarot reading can empower us, illuminating the path ahead, but will not tell us exactly which path to walk or how to walk it. With our daylight awareness, we can only see so far the path ahead. The tarot is like a lighted lantern. It helps us glimpse farther, just enough to give us what we need to make an informed decision about our own futures.
When we consult Tarot, the clarity and precision of our question directly determines how empowering the answer is. For this reason, I will often work with a client to rephrase a question. For example, the question, “Will I find love in the next six months?” is disempowering. A more empowering question would be, “What actions can I take to improve my chances of finding love in the next year?"
Readings are a collaborative process; a conversation in which insight and interpretation arise out of a shared spirit of inquiry. To schedule a reading click on the type you want below. I will respond within 24 hours. For email readings I agree to complete the reading within 72 hours of receipt of payment. Before doing the reading, I may converse with you to clarify your question. Then I will do your reading and send back to you the written reading, including a picture of the accompanying cards in the layout.
